“You have to have the fighting spirit.
You have to force moves and take chances.
That’s what chess is all about.”

1. Games can last for hours (or days) sometimes only to end in a tie (draw).
2. Strategy is so complex that new players feel overwhelmed with choices.
3. The pace of play is painfully slow – for players as well as spectators.
ADRENALINE chess was specifically designed to eliminate these hurdles while preserving the intrigue and intensity of classical chess.
AC games are much quicker to play – with action beginning on the first move, if not before. The random introduction of pieces to the board sharpens a player’s “spontaneous talent and creativity” – the battle cry of U.S. world champion Bobby Fischer.
The short board narrows strategic choices to a handful of tasty alternatives, then forces aggressive play – effectively eliminating draws.
In short, AC takes the elegant lines of a classic Ferrari sports car and sculpts them into a faster, sleeker, meaner model.

TIPS:
When choosing a color it’s usually a disadvantage to have a king in your starting five.
If your king is on the board, your first thought must always be to safeguard him.
Having a queen on the board early is not always an advantage (unless your opponent’s king is also on the board).
Keep in mind that knights are extra powerful on a short board. Preclude your opponent’s.
Pawns are also more dangerous on the 5×5 board. Use that fact to your advantage.
Try to keep your opponent’s rooks off your back row (this is often as simple as moving a pawn forward).
AC-castle at the most advantageous time – which may be before you are in check.
Keep an eye on your opponent’s reserve pieces so you know what might pop up next that could help, or hurt, you.
Don’t take unnecessary risks – especially late in the game. Always check reserve pieces before moving anything off your/their back row.
NEVER GIVE UP. Even if you lose your queen early. Queens are not nearly as important on a short board, and things can change quickly and drastically in AC, offering you a comeback you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

The SIDEWINDER is unique to Adrenaline chess. It appears on the back row of the board one move after a player’s reserve pieces are exhausted. Both players eventually receive one (if they survive long enough). A SIDEWINDER moves over the board like a snake, back and forth diagonally, and can capture pieces of either color.

The SIDEWINDER may stop on an empty octagon, or continue across the board until it captures a piece of either color – but it must alternate in the same pattern of its first turn.

To play AC without the SIDEWINDER piece, click the neon green snake icon (below the game board) before the first move.
